What I Wore 10.03.10

I have to confess that I wore pretty much this exact same outfit yesterday and I loved it so much that I wore it again today. If I look really tired in the pictures, it's because I was so nervous about doing an interview for journalism today that I couldn't get to sleep until about 2. And we only had to interview one of our classmates! What a nerd I am.

The skirt is vintage fabric (I think 70s?) so I decided to play around with my photo editing stuff (I AM doing photojournalism this semester, after all) and make them a bit more retro looking. OK, and it covers up the humongous bags under my eyes.

♥ Bodysuit by Living Doll from David Jones

♥ Skirt by My Girl Gwendoline, from Unwrapped markets

♥ Black flats

♥ Cocoa Pod ring, from Unwrapped markets

In case you were wondering, the interview went fine (of course). It was my first time using a voice recorder so I was terrified that I would do a great interview (not the terrifying part) and then that it wouldn't record and I would be left with NOTHING. It went quite better than that, although I did record the interview outside so it sounds like there's a tornado AND bombs exploding AND a monster truck rally happening at the same time.

Also... I AM working on some more interesting locations for my daily outfit photos, since now I'm pretty sure you all know what my front door looks like.

What I Wore 02.03.10

In case you were wondering what one wears to a lecture on Social Inequality & Possibilities for Change... this is it.

{I apologise if my smile seemes more like a grimace... I have a really bad migraine today!}

♥ Vintage dress

♥ Gold bangle from... Diva I think?

♥ Shoes by Isabella Brown

These shoes (I will get a better picture next time!) are my new go-to pair. I got them from Shoe Show for $60 and then saw a very similar pair in Witchery for $130! Ha! They are very Chloe-esque, in my opinion. This dress is another staple in my wardrobe (seen here, here and here) because it doesn't need to be ironed and it's a great colour, lovely print and covered up enough for any occasion!
Last night I watched the documentary on Anvil. I wasn't sure whether I would like it or not but it was one of the best movies I've seen in a while & I recommend it (even if you aren't a fan of heavy metal music!). It made a nice change from all the 90210 repeats I've been watching, that's for sure.

{sorry for the short post but as I said before I have quite a horrible migraine!}

What I Wore 13.02.10 & 14.02.10

Hello lovelies! This is an extra special double What I Wore post. The first outfit is what I wore to a friend's 21st, which I had a really fantastic time at. The photos are taken at my parent's house in Bunbury.

♥ Dress by Revival

♥ Shoes by Zu

♥ Covergirl nail polish

♥ I also wore cherry earrings by Table Eight and a purse from Williams the Shoeman but forgot to take a picture, oops!

I tried for ages to do victory rolls with my hair to match the 1940s style of the dress, but could not for the life of me figure out how to do them properly. Can anyone link me to a tutorial or something really easy to follow? I ended up backcombing my hair and ended up with something more closely resembling Peg Bundy than a 1940's film star. I also had shoes with very spiky heels but my boyfriend talked me out of them, since the party was taking place on a farm and all. I think the Zu heels were quite adequate though (and at least they didn't spike millions of holes in the grass)!

This is what I wore to Valentine's Day dinner at the Dux Cafe:

♥ Secondhand dress from a shop in East Fremantle

♥ Diva ring

♥ Miss Shop booties

♥ Williams the Shoeman purse, bought for something ridiculous like $2

I bought this dress a few weeks ago, while I was in East Fremantle (I think?) having lunch with my family for my grandparent's anniversary. Across from the restuarant I could see a little secondhand shop and this dress was hung over the front of the door and I was eyeing it all the while I was having lunch. As soon as it was polite to leave I bolted to the shop and hurriedly tried it on while praying it didn't have any obvious flaws I had missed and that I wouldn't get stuck inside it. I'm so glad I did, it's a very cute shape and a herringbone pattern that's printed to look like it's been scribbled on the dress. I have no idea what era it's from, so I'm not sure it's actually vintage, but I love it all the same.

What did you do with your weekend?

My Weekend

Wild Beasts

Mumford & Sons

My sister's boyfriend, my sister, and Boy

Echo & the Bunnymen

The XX

Dappled Cities

Eddy Current Suppression Ring

Me!

This weekend I went to the St Jerome's Laneway Festival. It was supremely brilliant, as expected, although I felt way, way underdressed compared to some of the other punters (see here for proof!). My favourites of the day were Mumford & Sons - heartbreakingly beautiful melodies and a whole crowd singing along to 'Little Lion Man' - and Wild Beasts, who I hadn't heard of until the day but they blew me away. Very Muse-y, but perhaps not on such a grand scale. I was very sad that I could hear but not actually see Florence and the Machine, but from what I could hear they sounded amazing. I think this is my favourite festival I've been to for awhile, and I already am psyched for next year!

Wearing Modcloth dress (first outing, I doubt it will have any outings without tights because it is a lot shorter than I'm used to!), Sportsgirl hat, scrabble tile 'T' earrings, Equip tights, and Mimi Loves Jimi brogues (very comfortable, the first time I've come home from a festival without blisters for a long time!).

Sorry for the lack of posting this week, have had some stuff going on that hasn't put me very much in the blogging mood - however, expect much more in the coming weeks!

What I Wore 22.01.10

Hello! Today was one of my very treasured days off, and even better, I actually had the house to myself for a couple of hours. I finally managed to watch The September Issue and did some cleaning.

This is one of the new skirts I picked up this week. I really want to try wearing seperates more often, because I feel like my outfits aren't really worthy of posting if they always just consist of a dress and a pair of shoes. I can't wear pants, and ESPECIALLY not shorts, without looking like a kid trying to play dress up, so skirts are as far as I'm going for now. I have one coming from Modcloth (have you seen their sale yet? It's insane!) and I bought a Wayne by Wayne Cooper mini for less than half the original price. Go me.

♥ Hi There by Karen Walker top - you might have spotted this in a few photos in the past couple of months, I have been wearing it constantly!
♥ Dotti skirt
♥ Mimi Loves Jimi brogues
♥ Sportsgirl nail polish
♥ Frank the Deer brooch by My Girl Gwendoline

And outfit details...

Hello Frank.

p.s I wanted to say thank you to Boy for taking my outfit photos since I got my new camera, and also because he bought me Lisa Mitchell's album today <3

What I Wore 19.01.10

My first outfit post of the year! Unfortunately it's not spectacular; this is what I wore to see Them Crooked Vultures and as I was in a rush I only got one good photo!

♥ Ben Sherman top

♥ Supre skirt

♥ Rubi shoes

I bought Boy tickets for Them Crooked Vultures for his birthday way back in October and I have been so excited about seeing them. I am a massive Dave Grohl fan and of course I love Led Zeppelin and Queens of the Stone Age so I was very happy when they announced they were coming to Perth! I hadn't heard a lot of their stuff before tonight, in my opinion it's most heavily influenced by Josh Homme, it had that kind of QOTSA effect where it's like the music runs up behind you and clubs you in the back of the head, it's so intense. But in a good way.

More posts to come this week!

p.s You may have noticed I dyed my hair - bye bye tiger stripes!

What I Wore 20.12.09 + Market Goodies!

This is what I wore the day after the markets. I was so exhausted from being out in the sun all day and no food (too hot to even contemplate eating!) that I missed a Christmas party I was went to go to, oops! Instead I ate pizza (not a good idea after eating nothing all day) and watched season two of 30 Rock, which is my current obsession.

I wore these shoes to the markets and OH MY GOD, my feet are ripped to shreds. Obviously I don't expect much from $30 shoes from Rubi but I can't even contemplate wearing them again. I bandaged up my feet and tried to wear them again today and shrieked in pain. Just a warning!

♥ American Apparel dress

♥ Rubi shoes

♥ Frank the Deer brooch from My Girl Gwendoline

♥ Headband from My Girl Gwendoline

The headband and brooch were made by my friend Renee of My Girl Gwendoline. The brooch was a thank you for helping at the market and the headband was a Kris Kringle present. I feel very lucky! If you are so inclined you can pick up a brooch here.

Anyway onto what happened at the markets - it was INSANELY hot. There was about an hour when I just zoned out and felt like I was going to vomit, it was so hot! But all that aside, it was quite nice to browse and see all these Perth designers putting out such awesome stuff. In my previous post someone commented that they were surprised there weren't many clothing designers showing, which I was surprised about too. Don't get me wrong, the jewellery there was fantastic, but I thought there would be way more people selling original designs, not op-shop gear. Anyway here's some of what I picked up:

Gun brooch by OSIER - check out the rest of her stuff, it's gorgeous!

Mix tape brooch from White Square

...and I can't remember the name of the shop which had the deer pillow!

OK, that's more than enough out of me!

What I Wore 18.12.09

Outfit photos from a different location, goodness gracious! This is what I wore to see Ponyo at the outdoor cinema at Kings Park. It was such an adorable movie and it was rather nice to lie all snuggly-like on a blanket, eating antipasto and watching lovely little anime characters. This was at the playground on a big dinosaur statue.

♥ Romance Was Born for Sportsgirl dress

♥ Black flats

♥ Diva headband

♥ Dangerfield stockings

♥ Black flats

♥ Paraphernalia necklace

♥ Vintage bag from Retrostar

I wear this dress so, so often and yet it has never been featured on the blog, I don't think! Well, here it is. It has a little deer print on the skirt, it is gorgeous. I have the top from the diffusion line as well - I was swayed by the fact that Super Kawaii Mama has the same one. And I got them both on sale (at different times)!
Have a good start to the week, only a few days until Christmas! Be on the lookout for a Gin in the Teacup Christmas giveaway...

What I Wore 10.12.09

My Modcloth dresses arrived this morning, so I wore one of them to go and have lunch with one of my most lovely friends.

Not sure what is going on in this photo?

The Clothes Horse dress from Modcloth - it's sold out right now but you can be notified when it is back in stock!

♥ Steve Madden flats

♥ Sportsgirl headband

♥ Earrings from Boy's sister, hard to see (I always forget to take detail photos of my earrings & whatnot) but they are little birds

Me trying to prove I have a waist... somewhere in this dress!

I am really happy with this dress. I read the reviews before I bought it, some of which stated that it was a bit on the short side. I'll admit that it is a bit shorter than dresses I would normally wear, but not uncomfortably so. On a hot day like today it seemed much easier to let it be a big ol' tent of a shift dress - and I was kind of digging the 60's groovy housewife vibe - but I think from now on I will belt it so I don't look so much like a munchkin! If you are interested, here is how the dress's namesake blogger remixed it.

I also got my uni results back and got two distinctions and a credit, yay! As I have mentioned before, it was easily the most difficult semester of uni for me so I was really really happy.

Apologies for the kind of short post!

What I Wore 26.11.09

I wore this fantastic dress to a dinner and movie date with Boy! We went to the Cinammon Club for some yummy Indian food and then to The Invention Of Lying. To be honest (ha) the movie was very clever but not spectacular, as much as I love Ricky Gervais I just couldn't get that into it. Also something about Jennifer Garner just really irks me, I can't place it but I can't watch a movie with her in it without grinding my teeth. I'm sorry Jennifer, it's nothing personal.

♥ Vintage dress, from Retrostar

♥ Gold rose studs from Diva

♥ Shoes from Zu

I looove this dress. It is my Chuck from Pushing Daisies dress now because Boy said it reminded him of a pastry-maker's dress. The pictures don't really show how vibrant the green is in real life. (They do show how pasty and white I am, though!)

Today I also went shopping and, along with a new iron (joy! No, really) and a mini hair straightener, picked up a Maggie Alderson novel - I read one while on the plane and they are perfect escapist books - and Dreaming of Dior, which I'm reading right now and can say that it is wonderful. I often wonder about the stories behind the vintage clothes that I buy; I think that the author was so lucky to be able to get to know the women who had worn the clothes and their stories. And only in my wildest dreams could I inherit 3000 vintage dresses in perfect condition!

p.s I am thinking of buying a new laptop, do you guys have any recommendations?

What I Wore 17.11.09

Hello! Today Boy and I went to the Dennis Hopper exhibit at ACMI. It was really interesting, I couldn't take photos inside but luckily THIS piece of epicness was in the place you are technically allowed to take photos.

And here is pretty much what I wore, my new shoes were giving me blisters so I changed to go and get some delicious pasta for dinner:

♥ Vintage dress
♥ New cardigan by Friends of Couture (more on that later, as it involved an epic shopping day which deserves its own post)
♥ Rodarte-inspired tights by Dangerfield (also new and, as I mentioned in my last post, an obsession of mine for a long time)
♥ Owl earrings by Diva
♥ Bag by Temt
♥ Black flats

And some more photos from the day...

What I Wore 11.11.09

Hello from Melbourne! This is what I wore to go to dinner at Stalactites and then to the Bennett's Lane Jazz Club. I am having a fantastic time which unfortunately (and especially with the addition of a dodgy laptop and battery) does not translate into lots of blog posts being produced.

♥ New dress from Retrostar

♥ Black flats

♥ Don't Ask Amanda headband (also new)

In between shopping Boy and I have also been to the aquarium. I loved it! Here are some pictures...

Penguins!

Jellyfish!

I will try and update some more now that camera and laptop issues are sorted!
